Rules

Jhyap is a popular Nepali shedding card game where players try to get rid of all their cards by playing valid combinations. The last player holding cards is the loser.

Objective

Be the first to shed all your cards by playing valid singles, pairs, triples, four of a kind, or sequences.

Setup
  1. Players: 2 to 5 players.
  2. Deck: Standard 52-card deck.
  3. Deal: Deal the entire deck as evenly as possible. The player with the 3 of Spades (or lowest card) starts.
Gameplay
  1. Step 1: The starting player leads with any valid combination: a single, pair, triple, four of a kind, or consecutive sequence.
  2. Step 2: Subsequent players must play the same type of combination but of higher rank, or pass.
  3. Step 3: When all players pass in succession, the last player who played clears the pile and leads a new combination.
  4. Step 4: Play continues until one player sheds all their cards. That player wins, and play continues to find the loser (the last player with cards).
Scoring
  • The first player to empty their hand wins the round.
  • In multi-round games, the last player left receives a penalty point. The player with the fewest penalty points after all rounds wins.
Variations
  • Jhyap with Jokers: Add Jokers as wild cards that can substitute for any card in a combination.
  • Speed Jhyap: Players have a time limit of 5 seconds to play or they must pass automatically.
Tips and Strategies
  • Save your highest cards and four-of-a-kind combos to regain the lead when others pass.
  • Try to play low pairs and triples early to thin your hand without wasting strong cards.
  • Watch what others play and pass to figure out which suits and ranks they are short on.
